Information Summary
Do you know about waxing solid-wood doors? Waxing is an excellent way to maintain and care for solid-wood doors, as it provides water resistance, dust protection, and helps preserve the door’s overall luster. However, if the waxing process is not done correctly, it can actually cause damage to the door.
1. Weather
“The sky-blue hue waits for the misty rain” refers to the fact that, in ancient times, due to technological limitations, the sky-blue color of blue-and-white porcelain could only be achieved through unpredictable weather conditions. Similarly, the waxing effect on solid-wood doors is also influenced by the weather: when the humidity is too high—such as on a rainy day—the waxed surface may turn milky or develop a whitish film.
2. Foreign Object
Before waxing a solid-wood door, any foreign matter on its surface—such as dust, dirt, and stains—must be thoroughly removed. When cleaning the door, be sure to use a neutral detergent to prevent swelling of the surface or the appearance of streaks and stains that could affect its appearance.
3. During wiping
When wiping a solid-wood door, the cloth used often contains excessive moisture, which can leave water or cleaning-agent residue in the door’s grooves. This may result in discoloration or whitening of the door’s surface.
4. When waxing
When applying wax, be sure to stir it thoroughly and first test a small, inconspicuous area of the solid wood door to check for any adverse reactions. Do not pour the wax directly onto the surface of the door; instead, use a clean cloth to carefully apply it along the grain, ensuring even and thorough coverage.
5. Waxing Time
Before waxing, it is essential to ensure that the surface of the solid wood door is thoroughly clean and completely free of moisture. Since the optimal preparation time varies with the season, you must verify that the door surface is entirely dry at the time of waxing to prevent issues such as whitening or clouding.
